Ontario’s First Live Snow Stake Arrives in the Blue Mountains
If you’ve ever skied or snowboarded in British Columbia, you know the thrill of checking a live snow stake before heading to the mountain. Those simple BC snow markers - quietly recording fresh powder in real time - have become essential tools for riders chasing perfect conditions. After spending time exploring BC’s legendary ski zones, we found ourselves wondering:
Why doesn’t Ontario have its own live snow stake?
Well, now it does.
Inspired by BC. Built for the Blue Mountains.
During our travels out West, the reliability of BC’s snow stakes made trip planning effortless. The concept was simple: a clear, consistent, honest reading of snowfall you could check any time. When we returned home to the Blue Mountains, we realized how much our region could benefit from the same real-time insight - especially with Ontario’s constantly changing winter conditions.
So we decided to build a custom snow stake right here in the Blue Mountains, near the ski hill we call home.
The result?
Ontario’s first-ever 24/7 live snow stake with real-time measurements up to 45 cm.

A Custom-Built Snow Stake Designed for Accuracy
Our snow stake isn’t just an aesthetic nod to the West. It was engineered with Ontario’s climate in mind:
- High-visibility measurement markers
- Durable materials built for freeze–thaw cycles
- Accurate readings up to 45 cm of snowfall
- Positioned for true, unobstructed snow accumulation
- Live-feed camera operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
This setup gives skiers, snowboarders, and winter enthusiasts instant access to real-time snow conditions in the Blue Mountains, helping you plan your day with confidence.
Why a Snow Stake Matters for Ontario Skiers
Ontario snow conditions can shift quickly due to lake-effect weather and fast-moving fronts. Traditional forecasts help, but nothing beats a live snowfall camera showing exactly what’s happening on the ground.
With this new custom snow stake, you can:
- Check snowfall totals before heading to the hill
- Track storm progress in real time
- See how much snow has accumulated overnight
- Get honest, visual ski conditions without guesswork
- Avoid disappointment - and catch more powder days
For the first time in Ontario, the kind of real-time snow tracking that’s standard in BC is now available in the Blue Mountains.
Bringing a Bit of BC to Ontario’s Winter Culture
This project started as a passion idea - a way to blend Western ski culture with our local mountain experience. But it’s become something more: a tool that brings the community together around the excitement of the season.
Ontario doesn’t have the altitude of the Rockies, but the stoke here? It’s just as real.
And now, for powder lovers across the province, the Blue Mountains finally has its own symbol of that spirit: a live, always-on, custom snow stake built by riders, for riders.
